Your hosts will meet you upon arrival, check you in and introduce you to the Kichaka team. Kichaka is a self catering camp and guests are responsible for cooking meals β however, staff are on hand to fire up the barbecue, light the camp fire and lamps in the evening, assist with the washing up if need be, and accompany you on bush walks and hikes.
Spacious thatched banda with a furnished lounge, dining and kitchen. Fully equipped kitchen with cookware, cutlery, crockery, glassware. Private pool with sun-beds, deck chairs, table and chairs. Charcoal barbecue (charcoal can be purchased). Campfire, camp chairs and firewood. Croquet set, hammocks.
Power
The camp is off the grid and is lit by lanterns, solar lamps and candles. There is no fridge in the banda, but guests are welcome to stock up on ice cubes, freeze ice-packs, and store food in the fridge at the main house if need be.
Phone Signal / Internet
There is phone signal for most mobile operators. Phones may be charged at the office during during day light hours only. Please bring your own USB chargers and cords.
Water
The hot water is heated by solar power and wood burners. The water comes from our borehole and is suitable for cooking.
Waste Disposal
Kichaka is an eco-friendly camp so we ask guests to keep plastic waste to a minimum.
What to Bring
We recommend you do the bulk of your shopping in Nairobi. However, there is an Eastmatt supermarket en-route in Kajiado where a variety of goods can be purchased. Items you should bring;
- Cool boxes
- Food, beverages and drinking water
- Bath and Pool Towels
- Torches and binoculars
- The terrain is quite rocky and thorny in places so sturdy shoes are essential
- Personal first aid kit and insect repellent
- Warm fleece/jumper for the evening
- Personal toiletries (toothpaste, shower gel etc.)
Kichaka Camp can host up to 12 people with accommodation comprising of four classic safari tents and two guest rooms.
Their two ensuite safari tents are furnished with comfortable queen sized divan beds, bed linen, duvets and pillows, side tables, a storage unit, full length mirrors and solar lights. The open air ensuite bathrooms have flush toilets, star showers, wash basins with solar powered hot water. Hand soap, hand towels and toilet tissue is provided. The tents are spacious enough to accommodate a baby cot or an extra bed for a child sharing with parents.
Their two other safari tents are furnished with comfy low lying queen sized beds, bed linen, duvets and pillows, rugs, side tables, a storage chest and solar lights. They are spaced approximately 10 meters apart and can be converted into twins, making them ideal for friends sharing, or for families with children. There is a shared open-air bathroom situated directly behind the tents, with a flush toilet, star shower, wash basins, with solar powered hot water. Hand soap, hand towels and toilet tissue is provided. Both tents are spacious enough to accommodate a baby cot.
The two guest rooms are furnished with comfortable queen sized divan beds, bed linen, duvets and pillows, side tables, a storage unit. There is a shared modern shower situated between the rooms, with a flush toilet, shower, solar powered hot water, wash basin and mirror, Hand soap, hand towels and toilet tissue is provided. The guestrooms also enjoy a fully equipped kitchen and and outside patio for dining.
